The forklift is a material handling device used to raise and transport loads from one place to another. Every forklift part has a specific function. Various components can be utilized to move the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components which lift and lower the load. There are various kinds of masts for raising loads to various heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
There are four different ways you can power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Situated within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest parts of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are located at the rear in order to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
