Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are many components that make up a forklift. The forklifts key components consist of the truck frame, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Also, a forklift consists of different kinds of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are all essential since they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail several of the lift truck components.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the lift truck's metal roof, that sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator whilst they are using the equipment. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will harm the operator or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on various units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and various other attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage could have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a range of attachments can be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, pole handlers, roll clamps and so forth. These various types of attachments are really helpful for moving different types of loads.
