Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to stock up pallets of goods, supplies, and to keep storage areas tidy. The reach truck is available in quite a few models: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The most basic type is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide under the pallet and move it to the correct storage location. The forks slide the pallet into position. This kind of reach truck is suitable when shelving units are one pallet deep.
The double-deep reach truck is like the stand-up, but is ideal for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods. This particular model consists of telescopic forks designed to place the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet should go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the additional advantage of being able to not just slide under the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units can be accessed in multiple directions. This model is ideal in situations where goods will not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Often more than one type of reach truck is required inside warehouses. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies use different kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and can make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
